Ten riders managed to qualify for the final on Saturday, and the points scored in the two runs to be shown in Sunday’s finals were added up to the total results. Right on time for the first run of the finals, the rain kicked in and the finishline-straight of the racetrack, on which the contest has been held, turned out to become very, very slippery.
Stoppies and drifts were very difficult to show under these circumstances, but nevertheless, I somehow managed to pull off a great run. I took the lead with a solid gap of four points ahead of “Mokus”.
It appears that the wet conditions caused way less problems to me than it did to my fellow competitors. Well, being German, one brings in a lot of experience in the wet, especially in such conditions they dare to call a “summer” where I live. On the other hand: Seen like that, constantly bad weather as I’ve had it at home over the last month or so has at least something positive, too ;-)
It all dried up until the second run has been called and we all could go full power in the second final-heat. Only the top five were allowed to enter these superfinals. Again, we’ve had a four minutes runtime in order to impress the jury. After having earned a solid lead in the first run, my strategy for the second one was a rather conservative one and mostly foresaw to not make too many mistakes and to get that contest home, safely. As always when I don’t go for 110 %, I’ve had some shaky moments immediately, but still I could win this second run, too. Second again came “Mokus” (Herczeg Balazs, HUN) ahead of Thomas Sagnier (FRA).
The German Open has been the first ever Stuntriding Contest to be held on German soil and I hope something big and steady will develop out of it. Somehow, this already has been some sort of an unofficial European Championship, having almost all the best European Stuntriders in the line-up. Another great thing was having Stuntriding's own legendary AC Farias in charge as a Headjudge. He took this job very serious and brought in all his (huge) competence in order to make sure the best rider wins and the results were allright. Respect, AC!
Yours-
Chris
