With this victory, I am leading i am in the lead fort he Euro Championship 2006 with comfortable 20 points, allowing me to end forth (in worst case scenario) and still bring home the title at the last round’s event on June 10/11 at Bomber Weekend in Finland. But I’d rather keep it low … many things still can happen.
In Hungary e.g. I almost crashed hard. At the second qualifier, I suddenly got grip on the rear wheel while burning donuts in second gear, and went off with a massive highsider. Somehow, I must have managed to avoid any body-damage at the landing (still: what an impact …), I was unhurt, immediately picked up the bike and kept going. I then learned about the crash-damage on the front-brake, so I went no-hands-wheelie to where my mechanic Hans was. By then, the reserve bike was already running. So I quickly swapted bikes and kept riding. The rest of the performance must’nt have been my worst run ever, because at the end, and despite my highsiding, I was still amongst the top 12 guys qualified for the finals!
Next morning I realized that my wrist was a little bit torn, nothing more than that, at the end.
I hope also this will be fine until Thursday, when racing is up at the Erzberg Rodeo, the world’s biggest Offraod-Race with more than 1000 riders entering. I’ll keep you posted ….
