It’s the second time that the 36-year-old from Halblech in Germany has won the European Stuntriding Championship, and because of the absence of a world championship series this year, the European title is considered to be most coveted stunt riding prize in the world.
Chris went to the final round of the 2006 series knowing that a fourth place finish would be good enough to take the title. However as usual, the 2003 stunt riding world champion refused to play it safe and proved his credentials as the world’s best streetbike freestyle rider by winning the final round in commanding fashion, beating Hungarian, Zoltan Angyal into second place.
This year’s European title was contested with events in Holland, Hungary and Finland – and Pfeiffer won all three of them. “This was exactly how I wanted to win the championship,” explained Chris, who was also victorious at the prestigious Stuntwars contest in America earlier this year. “I can’t ask for anymore than three wins from three events. It’s the perfect way to win the championship.”
Ever the perfectionist though, Chris wasn’t happy with his final round performance. “My qualifying and first round rides went really well,” he confirmed. “But then in the final I seemed to lose my rhythm a bit and had to really concentrate to get the result.”
It must have been depressing for Chris’ rivals when they heard of his unhappiness in the final, especially as the judges unanimously voted him the winner, despite great performances from several young up-and-coming riders. This victory returns to Chris the title he held in 2004 and is the first championship for BMW’s new F 800 S. The parallel twin-cylinder bike was only launched in dealers last month but Chris has already proved that in the right hands, BMW’s new sports middleweight machine has plenty of performance – for even the wildest of riders.
With the 2006 European Stuntriding Championship trophy now firmly in his grasp, there is, however, little time for Chris to enjoy his victory. A long drive back from Finland will reunite him with his family briefly before he’ll be setting off for Switzerland for a challenge of a very different type. This weekend, he’ll be swapping his F 800 S for an HP2 Enduro when he returns to contest the legendary Obersaxon hillclimb in Switzerland, where he finished on the podium in last year.
“I’m feeling really confident about Obersaxon now,” Chris enthused. “After winning here my next aim is to get a good result on the HP2 on Sunday, so wish me luck.”
